What is BMWs fastest and most powerful motorcycle?

The BMW HP4 Race is the pinnacle of motorcycle performance

BMW have a long history of creating powerful motorcycles and the S1000RR is currently the sportiest model in that offering. This road legal superbike offers unrivalled levels of performance in its class, but for some that is not enough.

For those there is the BMW HP4 Race. This model is an individually crafted high-tech innovation for the ultimate in performance around a racetrack.

The carbon fibre trim, intake silencer cover and seat hump are adorned with BMW HP Motorsport colours while a hand-brushed aluminium fuel tank sealed with a clear finish underscores the bike’s high quality racing look.

With the HP4 Race, BMW Motorrad became the first motorcycle manufacturer to utilise a main frame made in entirely of carbon fibre and weighing just 7.8kg. the front and rear wheels are also made of carbon fibre, which represent a weight saving of 30 percent compared to light alloy forged wheels while retaining their deliberately rigid design.

In many areas the HP4 Race can be measured in the same category as current superbike factory racing machines, even surpassing this level in terms of suspension thanks to a carbon fibre frame. Weighing just 171kg, when fully fuelled the HP4 Race is lighter than factory race bikes currently campaigned in the Superbike World Championship and just slightly heavier than MotoGP machines.

The suspension too has been selected to meet the highest demands of motorsport and the FGR300 upside down fork and TTX36GP rear shock were sourced from Ohlins.

Two Brembo GP4 PR monoblock brake calipers feature coated titanium pistons and single-piece aluminium calipers that are coated in a nickel-plated surface that represent the best combination of materials currently available. Clamping 6.75mm thick 320mm discs, the result is stunning braking performance.

The engine of the HP4 conforms to specifications 6.2 and 7.2 of the Endurance and Superbike World Championships and offer maximum output of 158kW (215hp) at 13 900rpm and 120Nm at 10 000rpm. A six-speed close-ratio racing gearbox is utilised with optimised transmission ratios and various secondary ratios.

Helping to put this power down and convert it into usable forward momentum is an extensive package of electronic control and assistance systems as well as a 2D dashboard that incorporates a 2D logger. Functions like Dynamic Traction Control controlled by ignition cut, Engine brake EBR and wheelie control allow riders to tailor power delivery according to their preferences and various circuits.

The new HP4 Race represents a purebred racing motorcycle that is limited to 750 units globally and features fascinating technical solutions for maximum racetrack performance that have been engineered by a small, highly specialised team.
