The iconic BMW M8

Under the bonnet

All three models share the same drivetrain which comprises of a V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo Technology, boasting 460kW and 750Nm. This engine offers a blend of razor sharp responses, a feverish appetite for revs and sustained power delivery across a wide power band. The M TwinPower Turbo technology of the 4.4-litre unit includes a pair of turbochargers positioned in the V between the cylinder banks which boast optimised efficiency and indirect charge air cooling along with a direct fuel injection system working with a maximum pressure of 350 bar. Power is transferred into forward momentum via an eight speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and the M xDrive all-wheel drive system which allows for a 0-100km/h sprint time as quick 3.2 seconds. Drivelogic allows for the selection of one of three modes with specific shift characteristics for particularly efficient, sporty or ultra-dynamic driving.

The centrally controlled interaction between M xDrive and the Active M Differential ensures loss-free transfer of the engine’s power to the road. The driver is also able to choose between the default 4WD setting and a 4WD Sport mode, which diverts a larger slice of engine power to the rear wheels. The deactivation of Dynamic Stability Control takes this one step further by transforming the vehicle into two-wheel drive.

Chassis technology developed with expertise gained from the world of motorsport ensures a combination of dynamic, agility and precision true to the M tradition. One such feature is a newly developed integrated braking system that offers the driver two different pedal feel settings.

At the same time the chassis also lives up to the expectations of luxury car customers when it comes to everyday and long-distance comfort. This includes the standard fitment of M-specific Adaptive suspension including electronically controlled dampers and electromechanical M servotronic steering.

Distinctive design

The exclusive design of M8 models is further enhanced by model specific features. Large air intakes and the BMW kidney grille, lavishly flared front wheel arches, M gills in the front side panels, aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors, a rear spoiler and rear apron with diffuser elements in a contrasting colour all contribute to a fitting visual showcase.

Inside story

The interior combines a M-specific cockpit design and progressive luxury with the fitment of a variety of driver assistance features as standard. A Setup button on the centre console enables direct access to settings for the engine, dampers, steering, M xDrive and braking system so that they can be tailored to personal preferences and the situation at hand.

Recently updated

All three models in the BMW M8 range were treated to a number of design updates during 2022 to ensure that they maintain their flagship status. Updates included additional exterior colours, M alloy wheels. Individualising options include M lights shadowline, full leather Merino/Alcantara in Black/Sakhir Orange. Operating comfort was increased by the 12.3-inch touch display of the BMW iDrive operating system.
