BMW Bloemfontein remains loyal to the brand

Thriving in central South Africa

BMW Bloemfontein opened its doors in 1995 as an Imperial dealer and subsequently became a retailer of Mini vehicles too. In 2003 they moved to a premises near the Bloemfontein Waterfront. Another move saw the dealership set up shop in its current location at 8 CP Hoogenhout street, Langenhovenpark, Bloemfontein.

The standalone dealership now retails new and used BMW and Mini vehicles and BMW Motorrad models while boasting a workshop that is equipped to service a wide variety of makes and models.

“Despite being situated in one of the poorest provinces in South Africa we at BMW Bloemfontein have been able to remain successful thanks to the support of the Motus group, our local community of clients and a loyal staff compliment,” says Dealer Principal, Rohan Makaum.

Throughout its history BMW Bloemfontein has performed admirably in the annual dealer of the year awards and walked away with the honours in the Financial Services division in 2015 and the BMW Motorrad division in 2016 and 2017 amongst a variety of other strong performances.

“We are also very proud of our continual good performance in the Voice of Customer CSI ratings as we really place a lot of emphasis on customer service,” adds Makaum.

BMW Bloemfontein continually sets themselves growth goals as they aim to be the segment leader in the premium market in Bloemfontein.

“We are currently putting a lot of effort into continuing to meet our new car sales target. If a customer wants a car, we will find the right one for them and get them finance.

New car sales are a very important part of the long-term feasibility of the dealership business. The more cars we sell the more cars go through our workshop for parts and servicing in future,” explains Makaum.

“With times being tough and vehicle prices continually rising we have found that our Guaranteed future value finance option is growing in popularity as it makes it easier for motorists to plan financially. We also like this option as it means that the customer will return to us at the end of the financing period which makes it great for repeat business,” says Makaum.

“BMW’s current product offering is very exciting and covers all the bases. While models like the X3 and X5 continue to be the most popular we have also seen a definite increase in the demand for electric vehicles, especially amongst local customers who are off the grid and generating their own electricity. We are also looking forward to the launch of the new 7-Series and X7 later in the year,” adds Makaum.

“One of the main reasons why BMW Bloemfontein has been able to remain successful is thanks to a loyal staff compliment. Motus and Sovereign are a great group to work for, BMW is an awesome brand to represent, and we are a sustainable business and I think those factors contribute to a pleasant working environment. Testament of that is a large number of long-standing employees,” explains Makaum.

Dealer principal Rohan Makaum has been with the dealership for 28 years, while parts manager Arthur Haddad and foreman Jaco de Klerk boast 24 years of service and workshop manager Donald Theron 23 years of service. In addition there are another 12 staff members who boast more than 10 years of service.

BMW Bloemfontein are also closely involved with their local community and a variety of charity projects.

Community initiatives include sponsoring the Mangaung Rugby Club, the BMW Bloemfontein School Shoe Project, water sponsorship for Xhariep District Department of Education and Trompsburg School. Sponsorship of the Talitha Cumi Golf day helped raise funds for the care of children and facilitated the completion of five houses that will become the children’s village. Along with motorcycle clubs Star Riders and CC Riders BMW Bloemfontein have also participated in several initiatives.

“One of our latest projects is targeting the repair of potholes, of which there are many in the Free State. The dealership fixed a variety of potholes as part of their recent Mandela day celebrations and going forward they will sponsor the repair of potholes for every car sold, giving that customer the choice of which potholes they would like to see repaired,” concludes Makaum.
