BMW Motorrad K1600 range updated

BMW have updated their range of six-cylinder motorcycles

BMW Motorrad recently treated their K1600 range to a variety of technical upgrades, while the six-cylinder engine is now more powerful and more refined than ever before.

Since 2010, top of the range BMW models have always featured six-cylinder engines. The K 1600GT represents the particularly agile, dynamic variant of the six-cylinder design, while the K 1600 GTL boasts more comfortable ergonomics and the standard top box allows for a more pleasurable riding experience.

The K 1600 B on the other hand features characteristic streamlining with a low rear section in bagger style and represents elegance, power and luxury on two wheels. Based on the K 1600 B, the K 1600 Grand America combines the superior performance of the six-cylinder in-line with exclusive equipment that makes long-distance rides in the American highway cruising style an experience that is as comfortable as it is fascinating.

Six-cylinder at the centre

The six-cylinder engine remains the centrepiece of the range and at just 555mm wide it is the narrowest six-cylinder motorcycle engine in series production today.

As part of the model range update this engine has been adapted to the current Euro five regulations. The addition of a variety of sensors has helped reduce emissions while also benefitting the power and torque on offer. The engine still offers 118kW but this is now available lower down in the rev range at 6 750rpm, torque has been increased to 180Nm at 5 250rpm. BMW claim that the range will use just 5,9 litres/100km. Engine drag control has been included, which limits excessive wheel slip in coasting mode or when downshifting.

Correct damping for every condition

BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA enables higher levels of rider safety, performance and comfort, as damping is automatically adapted to the riding conditions, manoeuvres and load states. Rain, Road or Dynamic modes allow the rider to tailor the damping via the press of a button.

Advanced lighting technology

A new full LED headlight with LED lens technology and iconic daytime riding light illuminates the road with unrivalled bright, clear, light. The headlight also features adaptive technology that sees the low-beam LED headlight swivel into the corner, illuminating the direction in which the motorcycle is moving.

All the information the rider needs, on one screen

A new 10.25-inch TFT colour display features integrated map navigation and connectivity. As it displays the navigation on the instrument cluster, additional displays are not required. A smartphone compartment with USB-C charging is standard fitment.

Audio system 2.0 is characterised by a high degree of integration into the electrical system and features technology such as DAB for clear listening pleasure.
