BMW Motorrad celebrates 100th anniversary with strongest global sales result in history

BMW Motorrad celebrates historic sales milestone

BMW Motorrad celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023 with the strongest sales result in the company’s history when 209 257 BMW motorcycles and scooters were delivered to customers worldwide.

This equates to a growth of 3,1% compared to the previous year and the highest volume in the company's history.

An extensive product portfolio consisting of modern motorcycles that characterise their respective segments as well as the market launch of popular new models such as the high-powered BMW M 1000 R and the BMW R 1300 GS made significant contributions to this successful performance.

This result also ensured that BMW Motorrad remains the worlds number one in the premium motorcycle and scooter segment, thanks to a highly attractive product range and strong brand.

The boxer models R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure also delivered their customary strong performance, with sales of around 56 000 units globally while the recently launched R 1300 GS has already clocked up 4 528 units globally, together making a significant contribution to the overall sales tally of 60 535 units.

The continued fascination with performance and riding dynamics has also resulted in a positive sales trend for the sporty four-cylinder models that BMW offers. With 11 442 units sold, the S 1000 RR has retained its leading position in the supersport motorcycle category, while the M 1000 R hyper roadster exceeded expecations with a sales total of 3 655 units delivered to customers. Together with the S 1000 R, S 1000 XR and the exclusive M 1000 RR, 25 195 units of the high performance four-cylinder models were delivered to customers worldwide.

With a total of 62 834 units sold, the F series with two-cylinder engines and G models with single-cylinder engines also contributed significantly to BMW Motorrad’s record result.

Clear market leadership for the CE04

With a share of around 70% of the global market for all-electric motorcycles and scooters with an output of more than 11kW, the CE 04 has established itself as the clear market leader. With a total of 7 177 units delivered, this sales performance equates to an incredible growth of 44% compared to the previous year. Great sales of other members of the urban mobility segments including the C 400 GT and C 400 X resulted in a total sales volume of 20 460 units in this segment, which represents a 17,9% improvement compared to the previous year.

Optimistic outlook for 2024

With numerous new innovative models and products, as well as the rollout of new models like the R 1300 GS to additional markets like South Africa during 2024, BMW Motorrad hope to continue this sales momentum and further consolidate their leading position in the premium segment.
