BMW iX goes on sale in South Africa

Late last year a new BMW iX range of vehicles went on sale in South Africa. These BMW technology flagship models feature fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology, innovative driver assistance systems and a range of up to 630km on a single charge of their fully electric drivetrain.

BMW’s new technology flagship presents a number of innovations in the fields of electric mobility and digitalisation.

The BMW iX is a modern Sports Activity Vehicle that has been designed to redefine the idea of interior spaciousness and luxury. The entire concept has been executed with sustainability in mind particularly in terms of materials selection, raw materials extraction and manufacturing. 

Model variants available from launch are powered by one electric motor on the front axle and one on the rear axle, resulting in a combined system output of 385kW in the BMW iX XDrive50 and 240kW in the BMW iX xDrive40.

This output allows the xDrive40 to sprint from standstill to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds while the xDrive50 takes only 4.6 seconds to get to 100km/h. 

The efficient powertrain technology and high energy density of the high-voltage batteries result in sufficient operating range for long distance journeys with WLTP calculated figures up to 630 kilometres for the xDrive50 and up to 425 kilometres for the xDrive40

The imposing body styling of the exterior design and numerous precisely crafted details bring the progressive interpretation of luxury to the fore. A completely blanked off BMW kidney grille, a product of innovative manufacturing techniques, incorporates camera and radar sensors. The clear and minimalist design of the exterior showcases a new form of mobility geared squarely to the need’s of the vehicle’s occupants. Its interior offers those on board innovative options for using their time during a journey and enjoying a new form of luxury in the process

The interior has been designed from the inside out to provide quality of life and personal well being. Vast amounts of room and newly developed seats with integral head restraints create a luxurious ambience while the absence of a central tunnel creates extra legroom, plus sufficient space for storage areas and a centre console designed in the style of a high-quality piece of furniture.

The BMW iX is fitted with the most extensive spread of driver assistance systems ever fitted as standard on a BMW, along with a wealth of extra innovations. As an example, the front collision warning system now detects cyclists and pedestrians as well as oncoming traffic when.
