Mini Countryman launches in South Africa

Experience the all-new Mini Countryman, now available in South Africa.

The all-new Mini Countryman has gone on sale in South Africa and now offers improved exterior dimensions, increased interior space and a variety of unique touches that celebrate the brands iconic history.

Alongside this launch Mini are also rolling out a new naming convention, which will see petrol powered models adopt C badging for Cooper models and S badging for the sportier derivatives.

Authentic Mini design

The off-road character of the Mini Countryman has been enhanced by a completely new exterior design which is pure Mini with clear aesthetics. The front end is characterised by a tensely shaped bonnet and new octagonal front grille. LED headlights accentuate the reduced design with individual signature modes. Characteristically short overhangs, a slim outline and a stretched contrasting roof are quintessential Mini design elements that have been retained while a stylish, concisely designed, C-pillar connects the stretched vehicle roof to the body in the same colour. The reduced body design along with delicate contours ensures a sleek appearance. Piano black roof rails are now standard equipment and add a level of practicality by creating a basis for expanded transport options such as the fitment of a Mini roof box.

The base vehicle design is accentuated by one of four trims that cater for different tastes. Essential, Classic, Favoured and John Cooper Works all add unique interior and exterior touches to the overall styling package. In conjunction with the different trims, different paint and roof colours as well as various interior finishes are also available.

Large interior with completely new design ethos

The Mini Countryman has grown considerably in size and now measures 13cm longer and eight centimetres taller than its predecessor. This results in a significantly roomier interior which can accommodate up to five adults in comfort. Sport seats are fitted as standard and are covered with a patterned multi-tone textile.

Furthermore, the backrest of the three rear seats can be individually adjusted in six positions and can also be moved 13cm, for the expansion of rear legroom or cargo space as required, ranging from 450 to 1460 litres.

The interior is characterised by a brand-new design language which utilises clear shapes, high quality materials, innovative technology and individually adjustable lighting to create an immersive driving experience.

The most noticeable change is a unique two-tone colour gradient textile surface that covers the dashboard and door panels and which is manufactured from a polyester that is sourced from recycled drinking water bottles and applied in a specially developed knitting process.

A new high-resolution, round OLED display takes pride of place on the dashboard. Measuring 240mm and finished with a high-quality glass surface it facilitates convenient operation of the infotainment and assistance systems by being placed closer to the driver and passenger. The latest Mini operating system 9 allows for all functions to be operated intuitively or via voice assistant.

The Mini Experience Modes change the appearance of the cockpit with a combination of visual design, ambient lighting and sound design. All driving functions can be controlled via the characteristic Mini toggle bar.

Under the bonnet

The new Countryman range is being launched with the Mini Countryman C and Mini Countryman S ALL4 derivatives while the Countryman SE ALL4 and Countryman John Cooper Works models are set to follow imminently.

Under the bonnet of the Mini Countryman C is a 1.5 litre three-cylinder engine that features TwinPower Turbo technology to offer an output of 115kW and 240Nm, allowing it to sprint to 100km/h in 9.0 seconds.

The Mini Countryman S ALL4 features a larger two-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine which boasts 150kW and 320Nm, allowing it to complete the 0-100km/h sprint in just 7.4 seconds.

The ALL4 nomenclature signifies the combination of the flexible driving possibilities of an SUV with intelligent all-wheel drive. The ALL4 all-wheel drive system ensures a noticeable increase in traction, thanks to precise electronic control with power distributed between the front and rear wheels as conditions require.

All wheel drive in conjunction with the generous 202mm of ground clearance that the Mini Countryman offers, allows the Countryman to tackle bad roads and gravel roads comfortably and safely.
